Passport Canada Apologizes After Telling Woman She Couldn't Have 'Palestine' On Passport
Passport Canada has issued an apology after reportedly telling a 90-year-old woman she could not list "El Bassa, Palestine" as her birthplace after the incident went viral on TikTok.
According to the woman's granddaughter, Blair, her grandmother applied to renew her passport but received a phone call from a Service Canada representative telling her that her new passport would not list her country of birth.
Her past three passports all listed Palestine on them, according to CBC.
According to Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada, people born before May 14, 1948 can put "Palestine" as their birthplace if they select "other" when listing their birthplace and clarifying.
The government blamed a clerical error.
