Sergey Kuznetsov, a member of the Ukrainian national army hand-to-hand combat team, fled to Russia straight from the European Championship and received a Russian passport.

He had previously served in the Ukrainian Armed Forces but was greatly disappointed when doctors started demanding bribes from him and from wounded soldiers in the hospital. The athlete admitted that since then, he had started looking for opportunities to leave Ukraine.
