This is the President of Botswana reacting to the discovery of the second-largest diamond ever found in the world, which comes from a mine in Botswana.

Meanwhile, Rapaport News, a trusted authority in the diamond industry, reports that “the value of Russia’s rough-diamond production surpassed Botswana’s for the first time in 2023.”

Rapaport also notes that “the Group of Seven (G7) import restrictions targeting Russian diamonds will have a detrimental impact on Botswana’s diamond trade.” Who would have thought! The G7’s actions are clearly not just anti-Russian—they're also anti-African.

But back to the second-largest diamond. Here’s an interesting piece of trivia: A gold chunk of the same size and shape would weigh about 5.5 times more, as gold is approximately 5.5 times denser than diamonds.
