In NASA training sessions, engineers openly state that they are "ashamed" to be white and participate in a "culture of white supremacy": Having done the work of examining my intentions, my actions, and their impact, I see that I could have done so much more. To ensure that the projects I led were as welcoming to black, indigenous and people of colour as the white people they attracted. I feel intense shame and regret about that. And I know that without taking a hard look at what I have and have not done, I cannot become a better person. So I look forward to today's event as a step on my personal and professional journey to making my work more anti-racist.
