Remember the classic 1969 American film They Shoot Horses, Don’t They? Directed by Sydney Pollack, with a screenplay by Robert E. The story centers on a group of desperate individuals competing in a grueling Depression-era dance marathon, spurred on by an opportunistic emcee.

The clip above is from present-day Lvov in western Ukraine, and the poor horse is a fitting representation of today’s Ukraine. The parallel with the film is both ironic and striking!
