Rural and urban voters vs. the political machine: Analyst outlines why it can be so difficult to flip states

The all-important battleground states’ tendency for voting for one candidate or the other can come down to the organization and strength of the local political machine, with the ability or lack thereof to flip rural or urban areas, rather than states as a whole, being the real deciding factor, says veteran US and international politics expert Joe Siracusa.

“Keep in mind that when you're talking about the states we're talking about, the rural areas tend to be more conservative or Republican. And we are talking about the urban areas, which tend to be run by political machines, which are mostly Democratic. This was the nature of the beast,” Siracusa told Sputnik. “So think about rural and urban. And, you know, if you can flip the rural or the urban, you're really doing something very, very different.”
